Cave Prometheus, also known as Kumistavi, is one of the most popular natural attractions in Georgia, attracting thousands of tourists every year. Situated 20 km from Kutaisi, this cave amazes with its ancient history, scale and unusual underground landscapes: stalactites and stalagmites, underground lakes and a magnificent lighting system make the cave a real natural gallery. Why is the cave called Prometheus

According to ancient Greek legend, Prometheus is a hero who gave fire to people and was punished by the gods. In these parts, according to legend, he was chained to a rock, and every traveler passing by could see the suffering of this rebellious titan. That is why in 2010, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili named this karst cave Prometheus Cave. Today, this place attracts tourists not only with its natural beauty, but also with its mystical atmosphere born of legends.

To visit the cave, you must purchase tickets that include a guide. Tours are available in different languages ​​and last about an hour, allowing you to learn about the history and features of the cave in detail.

It is cool inside Prometheus Cave — the temperature is kept at +14 °C, which is comfortable for most adults. However, it is recommended to bring warm clothes for children so that they do not freeze during the hour-long walk. It is important to note that the most breathtaking views await tourists in the depths of the cave, so do not linger at the entrance, but move on to the main underground halls.

How to get to Prometheus Cave

The most convenient way to get to Prometheus Cave is to take a taxi from Kutaisi, which takes only 40 minutes. You can also get there by car from Batumi (approximately 140 km) - the journey will take about three hours. From Tbilisi the journey is longer - about 240 km, but the highway is more convenient and the trip will take about four hours. We offer excursions from Batumi and Kobuleti, which simplifies the road and allows you to fully enjoy the trip without unnecessary worries.
