Discover a unique journey from Batumi to Turkey, which combines historical, natural and cultural attractions of the region. Our tour “Turkey Tour from Batumi: Trabzon, Uzungol, Sumela” is conducted both in a group and individual format. You will be accompanied by an experienced Georgian driver, who will make your trip truly unforgettable.
The tour starts at 6:30 am with departure from Batumi. Before departure, make sure that you have a passport and enough Turkish lira, which can be bought at street exchange offices in Batumi. On the route you will pass through the Georgian-Turkish customs in Sarpi, after which your exciting journey through Turkey will begin.
The first stop of the tour is Lake Uzungol, located in the village of the same name in northeastern Turkey, about 100 km from Trabzon. This picturesque mountain lake is located at an altitude of 1,100 meters above sea level in a national park where you will find lush green mountains and stunning views. Here you can have lunch in the restaurant and also admire the natural beauty of this unique place.
The next location is Sumela Monastery, carved out of the chalk cliff at an altitude of 300 meters in the Altındere Valley National Park. The monastery, included in the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, is one of the most impressive historical monuments in the region. Entrance to the monastery costs 770 TL, and from the parking lot to the monastery you will need to take a bus (4 km for 60 TL). This place will amaze you with its architecture, breathtaking views of the deep abyss and ancient legends surrounding this holy place.
Built in the 13th century, Hagia Sophia is a masterpiece of Byzantine architecture, the embodiment of centuries of history and spiritual greatness. This temple has become a symbol of "Holy Wisdom" (Hagia Sophia), combining the elegance of Christian architecture and the power of the Ottoman heritage. After the conquest of Trabzon by Sultan Mehmed II, the temple was converted into a mosque, and in the 20th century it briefly became a museum, revealing its secrets to the world. Today, again functioning as a mosque, it continues to inspire travelers with its harmony of cultures and religions.
Why visit?
Unique architecture — exquisite arches, carved columns and a dome hovering over the sea.
Ancient frescoes —rare Byzantine paintings that have survived the centuries.
Atmosphere of unity —a place where Christianity and Islam are intertwined.
View of the Black Sea —the temple stands on a hill, revealing stunning views.
