November is the month when Batumi stops being a resort and becomes a city: the beach is closed, but the markets are piled with tangerines and persimmons, the wineries are pressing the last grapes and distilling chacha, and accommodation costs what it will otherwise cost only in winter. It is also the rainiest month of the year, which we will say plainly, and a month of clear windows between fronts, when it is +18 by day and people sit on the boulevard in T-shirts. Below: the weather by ten-day periods with verified numbers, an honest look at the rain and a full trip plan - flights, accommodation, insurance, tours.

In short: why come in November

  • Tangerine season: from mid-month they are picked on the plantations, and there is a tour for that.
  • The first half of November is the last chance to catch Rtveli, the grape harvest with a feast.
  • Daytime +14-19 °C: walking and mountain trips are more comfortable than in summer.
  • Accommodation and flights are the cheapest of the year, on a par with winter.
  • No queues, no crowds: the cable car, museums, restaurants and the Old Town are all yours.
  • Between the rains - clear windows of 3-4 days with sun and +18-20.

November weather by ten-day periods

By the climate normals, November in Batumi means +16.5 °C by day and +9.1 °C at night on average for the month, with a mean of +11.9. For comparison, London or Berlin see such numbers in early October. But, as in October, the monthly average says little: the first ten days still hold the autumn warmth, the last ones already smell of winter. There is no frost, and snow in the city in November is a rarity.

PeriodDayNightSeaWhat it means
November 1-10+18-19 °C+11 °C+18 °CWarm autumn: walks in a light jacket, the last trips to Rtveli and Gomis Mta
November 11-20+16-17 °C+9 °C+16 °CTangerine picking begins, fronts alternate with clear windows
November 21-30+14-15 °C+7-8 °C+14 °CPre-winter: a warm jacket, more rain, a city without tourists

The days are short: on November 1 the sun sets at 18:08, on the 30th at 17:44, and sunrise shifts to 8:20. There are about ten hours of daylight, so a full-day trip has to start no later than nine in the morning. On the other hand, November light - low and slanting - is the most picturesque for photographing old Batumi: it lights the facades from the side instead of beating down from above as in summer.

Sea temperature in Batumi in November

Batumi beach

The swimming season is closed in November. The water is still around +18 °C in the first days, +16 by mid-month, +14 by the end - and even on a warm day at the beach that is a temperature for the hardy, not for holidaymakers. There are no lifeguard posts or sunbeds, and after storms the sea is murky with a heavy swell. The year-round curve is on the page about sea temperature in Batumi, and when the season opens again is in our guide to the swimming season.

What the sea offers in November instead of swimming is the storm as a spectacle. It storms more often in November than in any summer month, and from the promenade or a cafe with panoramic windows the waves look better than any summer calm. And for those who cannot do without water, there are hotels with indoor pools and spas: in November they replace the beach, and we will come back to that in the accommodation section.

Rain: the wettest month of the year and how to live with it

Let's say it as it is: November is the rainiest month in Batumi. The precipitation normal is 312 mm, more than October (277) and December (268), and three times more than April. There are about thirteen rainy days, and unlike September these are no longer night showers but fronts from the sea: a gray sky and rain for two or three days in a row is the norm, not the exception. Such days need a plan, and we have one: where to go in Batumi when it rains - from covered markets and spas to Prometheus Cave with its constant +14.

The good news: between the fronts come clear windows of three or four days, and on those days November looks like September - sun, +18-20, a calm sea, people in T-shirts on the boulevard. Those windows are exactly what to plan your trips around. This is where the forecast finally starts doing its job: in November the weekly summary on our Batumi weather page shows well when a front will arrive and when it will leave - look at the precipitation in millimeters by day and build the plan like this: front - city, museums, spa, food; window - mountains, tangerines, the sea from the promenade.

October or November: a comparison

If the choice is between the two autumn months, here is an honest table:

ParameterOctoberNovember
Daytime air+24 → +18 °C+19 → +14 °C
Sea+23 → +19, swimming until mid-month+18 → +14, no swimming
Precipitation277 mm, about 10 days312 mm, about 13 days, fronts of 2-3 days
AccommodationOff-season from mid-monthThe lowest prices of the year
RtveliAll monthFirst half only
TangerinesThe first ones, still greenIn season, picking on the plantations from mid-month
MountainsAutumn colors, Gomis MtaColors below, first snow above; Gomis Mta until mid-month
Sunset18:55 → 18:0918:08 → 17:44

The conclusion: for those who want the sea and mountains in color - October. For those coming for tangerines, feasts and prices - November, and preferably its first half: it still has Rtveli, Gomis Mta and the warmth. All three autumn months in one comparison are on the page Batumi in autumn.

Things to do: tangerines, Rtveli and mountains

Tangerine picking in Batumi

The main November event is tangerines. Adjara is Georgia's tangerine country, and from mid-November the plantations from Batumi to the Turkish border go into harvest. There is a separate tangerine-picking trip for it: half a day along the coast via Gonio Fortress and the St. Andrew waterfall, an hour on a working plantation with a basket in hand and lunch at the common table with the hosts. Tangerines taken off the branch and tangerines from a shop are different fruits, and you will taste the difference from the first segment.

In the first half of the month Rtveli is still on: the grape harvest with a feast at a winery ends by mid-November, and it is the last chance of the year to press the juice yourself and taste the young wine that has been fermenting since September. In the same first two weeks the season closes on Gomis Mta: trips run until mid-November, and the views from the mountain at this time can be the best of the year, but the cold up top is already winter cold. Later the road is buried in snow until summer.

Mountainous Adjara

Mountainous Adjara and Prometheus work all month. In the Adjaristskali gorge the autumn colors hold on through the first half of November, and after the rains the waterfalls carry more water than in summer - Makhuntseti roars in November the way it never does in August. Prometheus Cave is the most reliable trip of the month: it is always +14 inside, and in Imereti, beyond the ridge, it is often dry on the days of Batumi's fronts. Dates and days are in the schedule of group excursions: in November it is shorter than the summer one, so plan ahead.

The holidays are November ones too. In Keda, half an hour from Batumi, the autumn and wine festival takes place in the first half of the month, with tastings from local winemakers, chacha distilling and a feast in the park - the date floats, check the page. And on November 23 all of Georgia celebrates Giorgoba, St. George's Day: it is a public holiday, there are services in the churches, and restaurant tables in the evening are best booked in advance.

Seasonal table: tangerines, persimmons, chacha

The November Boni market is the best of the year, and that is no exaggeration. Tangerines are sold by the crate, and a kilogram costs less than a bus fare; by November persimmons turn translucent and honey-sweet and are eaten with a spoon; the stalls hold pomegranates, quince, feijoa, fresh walnuts and chestnuts roasted right on the streets. This is when tangerine and persimmon jam is made and churchkhela is dipped, and all of it is a souvenir you will not find in this quality in December.

Wine tasting room

Wine and chacha in November are seasonal in the literal sense. The young wine from the September harvest is still «playing», chacha is being distilled all over Adjara, and in guesthouses they will pour you a fresh one. A wine tasting in a cellar in Batumi in November is a conversation about what is happening in the qvevri right now, not about last year's bottles. And it is the month of hot food: khashlama, chashushuli, khinkali in the rain - the things worth coming here for when the beach is no longer an option.

Planning the trip: flights, accommodation, insurance

November is the cheapest month to fly to Adjara, on a par with winter: demand is minimal, and tickets to Batumi and Kutaisi cost noticeably less than in October. Batumi Airport is 15 minutes from the center, Kutaisi is the low-cost hub two hours away by bus; the prices for both are easy to compare in one search - check flight prices to Batumi and Kutaisi. The way from the airports is covered step by step: from Batumi Airport and from Kutaisi Airport. If flying to Tbilisi is more convenient, there are regular domestic flights from there to Batumi, about an hour in the air; the overland options are train, buses and transfer.

Accommodation in Batumi

Accommodation in November is at the year's minimum. Sea-view apartments that were snapped up months ahead in August stand empty, and owners readily give discounts for a week or longer; hotels have their best prices on rooms with a pool at this time. The price range by district is on the page about the cost of accommodation in Batumi, and options with free cancellation for your dates are easy to find on Booking. One November rule when choosing: check the heating. Older Batumi flats often have none, and an air conditioner in heating mode is a weak substitute in the damp of November; hotels are simpler in that respect, and November is exactly the time to look at the five-star hotels of Batumi: their indoor pools, hammams and spas replace the sea, and off-season prices on them are the most humane of the year.

Since January 1, 2026, insurance has been a condition of entry to Georgia, and the policy can be asked for at the border; the details are in our guide to travel insurance for Georgia. In damp November colds are the main insurance case, and a Georgian policy is more practical here: the claim is paid inside the country, without waiting for a transfer from abroad - to buy insurance on polis.ge takes a few minutes.

A car in November is for those who want to catch the clear windows without depending on a schedule: you see three dry days in the forecast - you go to the mountains. Rental rates in November are off-season and the roads are empty, but the serpentines are slippery after rain, and above 1,500 meters snow is possible - take a car with good tires. It is convenient to rent a car from local companies on Localrent with delivery to your hotel.

What to pack

A November suitcase is an autumn one, not a summer one. The basis is a waterproof jacket with a hood and shoes that do not fear puddles: on front days the rain goes on for hours, and by the sea the wind flips umbrellas. Under the jacket, layers: by day in a clear window it is +18 and warm, in the evening +8 and damp, and the difference feels bigger than the numbers promise. A warm sweater is a must, especially if your accommodation has no heating. For the mountains, a hat and gloves: on Gomis Mta and the passes it is already around zero in November. Take a swimsuit only for the pool or spa. And leave room in the suitcase: tangerines, churchkhela and chacha from the November market are the best things to take home from here.
