Batumi weather in autumn by month
Autumn on the Adjara coast is warm and wet: the subtropics give back the heat stored over summer slowly, the sea cools even more slowly than the air, and precipitation grows from month to month, reaching its yearly maximum in November. In climate-normal numbers it looks like this:

Two things the table does not show. First: within each month the weather changes more than between neighboring ones - the end of September is closer to the start of October than to its own beginning, which is why on the monthly pages we break each month down into ten-day periods. Second: autumn rain is most often a night downpour or a front of two or three days followed by a clear window, not a week of gray drizzle. Which month to choose
If the sea is what matters, the answer is clear: September. The water in the first half of the month is warmer than in June, the beaches are emptier than in August, and the heat is gone. October is a swimming lottery with good odds until the 15th: on warm days the beach looks like summer, but after a storm the sea stays murky and cool for two days. November is a month without swimming, and promising otherwise would be dishonest.
If mountains and wine are what matter, take October. From the 20th the beech slopes above the Adjaristskali turn yellow and red, Gomis Mta has the most reliable seas of clouds of the year, and Rtveli runs all month, so a grape harvest with a feast fits any dates. September in the mountains is still green and warm; November already has the first snow on the passes.
If prices and food are what matter, November. Accommodation and flights are at the year's minimum, the market sells tangerines by the crate, the wineries pour fresh chacha, and from mid-month the plantations near Batumi are picking tangerines. For those who want two seasons in one trip, the seams between months work: the last week of September plus the first of October gives both the sea and the first colors, and the end of October with the start of November gives Rtveli, Gomis Mta and the first tangerines at the market.

Two events on this list are our own trips, and they are seasonal in the literal sense: Rtveli ends when the last grapes are picked, tangerine picking begins when they are ripe. Things to do in autumn: sea, mountains, city
The beach program shrinks with the calendar: in September it is full, in October it lasts until mid-month, in November only a walk along the promenade and the storm as a spectacle remain. But the September beaches of Batumi are the best of the year: the same sunbeds and cafes as in August, but without the queues and the heat. The mountains, on the contrary, open up in autumn. All summer day trips continue, and each gets an autumn argument: Prometheus Cave is always +14, and in October it is not hot outside and not cold inside; Martvili Canyon and Mountainous Adjara carry more water after the first rains than in summer, and the waterfalls roar the way they never do in August; Gomis Mta in September and October gives the most reliable seas of clouds. Going to the mountains in autumn is more comfortable than in July - no daytime stuffiness - but you need to leave earlier: sunset shifts from 19:46 at the start of September to 17:44 at the end of November, and the road back after six is in the dark.
The city has its own autumn. The Argo cable car is running, and in the clear autumn air the view from the top reaches the Turkish coast; nothing in the top twenty attractions closes for the season; the museums, the Old Town and the restaurants empty out from September, and a window table with a view of the storm is a matter of wanting one, not of booking. The autumn table of Adjara
The Boni market changes every two weeks in autumn. September - grapes of every color, ripe figs that do not survive transport and are therefore never exported, the first young hazelnuts and corn on the coals by the promenade. October - persimmons, pomegranates, quince, green walnuts and chestnuts in street braziers. November - tangerines by the crate at a price below a bus fare, persimmons eaten with a spoon, feijoa and fresh chacha distilled all over Adjara after the grape harvest.
Wine in autumn is not a tasting detached from life but part of what is happening: in September the new harvest is picked, in October it ferments in the qvevri, in November the young wine is already being poured. A wine tasting in a cellar in Batumi at this time comes with the story of what is happening to the wine right now, and after Rtveli, where you pressed the grapes yourself, the word «qvevri» stops being a word from a guidebook. Planning: prices, flights, accommodation, insurance
Prices fall in steps in autumn. September is 15-20% cheaper than August for accommodation, the off-season begins from mid-October, and November is the year's minimum, on a par with winter. Flights follow the same curve. You can fly into Adjara through Batumi Airport, 15 minutes from the center, or through Kutaisi, the low-cost hub two hours away by bus - the prices for both are easy to compare in one search: check flight prices to Batumi and Kutaisi. Accommodation is chosen differently in autumn than in summer. In September a sea view still matters, in October an indoor pool or a spa to replace the beach, in November heating: older Batumi flats often have none, and an air conditioner in heating mode is a weak substitute in the damp of November. What to pack
An autumn suitcase is packed by month. September - a summer one with one extra layer: a swimsuit for the whole month, a light sweater for the evening, an umbrella that will come in handy two or three times. October - in layers: a swimsuit for the first half, a waterproof jacket and a sweater for either half, closed shoes with a sole that grips wet stone at the waterfalls. November - autumn without reservations: a hooded jacket instead of an umbrella, which the sea wind flips inside out, a warm sweater, and a hat and gloves for the mountains. Sunscreen is needed all of September and the first half of October: the sun is lower, but you spend more time on the beach because you are not hiding from the heat.
