Georgia Itineraries: Comprehensive Plans for Your Trip

Explore the best routes across Georgia. Detailed day-by-day itineraries for road trips, solo travelers, and guided excursions
Georgia is easiest to explore from two bases: Batumi on the sea in the west and Tbilisi in the east. They are about 350 km apart: about 4 hours by train, 5-6 hours by car. Below are three plans - for 3, 7 and 10 days - with what to see in each city and tips for the road.
3 days: Batumi and mountainous Adjara
- day 1 - Batumi on foot: the Old Town, the seafront boulevard and the Argo cable car in the evening; ready-made walks are in our article on what to see in Batumi in one day;
- day 2 - mountainous Adjara: Makhuntseti waterfall, Queen Tamar's arch bridges and wineries along the road;
- day 3 - the Botanical Garden and the southern coast, or "Georgian Bali" - the banana grove and beach in Tsikhisdziri.
7 days: Batumi - Kutaisi - Tbilisi
- days 1-3 - Batumi as above;
- day 4 - move to Kutaisi: about 2.5 hours by car (152 km); in the afternoon, the city on foot - the market, the Colchis fountain, the White Bridge, Bagrati Cathedral and the cable car;
- day 5 - Prometheus Cave and Sataplia, or Okatse Canyon and Kinchkha waterfall;
- day 6 - on to Tbilisi: about 3 hours by car from Kutaisi, with the old town and sulphur baths in the evening;
- day 7 - Tbilisi and Mtskheta, Georgia's ancient capital: about 40 minutes by minibus from Didube metro.
To see the Kutaisi area without moving hotels, you can visit Prometheus Cave and Martvili Canyon on a day trip from Batumi.
10 days: add Kazbegi and Kakheti
We suggest giving Tbilisi at least 5 days. Add to the 7-day plan a day in Kazbegi - Stepantsminda is 157 km along the Georgian Military Road, about 3 hours - a day in the Kakheti wine region and a day for the Diamond Bridge in Dashbashi Canyon or the Fig Gorge. In winter the Jvari Pass on the way to Kazbegi sometimes closes for a few hours, so a spare day helps.
Getting between cities
The Batumi - Tbilisi train takes about 4 hours, and a second-class ticket costs from 35 GEL (autumn 2026), with stops in Kobuleti, Ureki and at Kutaisi airport. Tickets go on sale 15 days ahead and next-day seats are usually gone, so book your train ticket online in advance. Other options are in our article on how to get from Tbilisi to Batumi.
To stop along the way, it is easier to book a car with a driver between cities: the price is per car and cash is accepted. If you prefer to drive yourself, pick a rental car.
