Alphabetic Tower in Batumi
A unique 130-meter steel structure celebrating the Georgian alphabet. Discover the DNA-inspired design and stunning Black Sea views
The Alphabetic Tower is a 130 m tower on Batumi Boulevard shaped like a DNA double helix, with the 33 letters of the Georgian alphabet spiralling up its frame. You can look at it from outside for free; a glass lift takes you to the top. In 2026 the lift costs 20 GEL for adults and 10 GEL for children from 7, under-6s go free. The ticket office is open daily from 11:00 to 22:00. Allow about 45 minutes for the ride and the view.
What to see at the tower
The tower opened in December 2011; the structure was designed by the Spanish engineer Alberto Domingo. There are no stairs for visitors, only lifts, and the ride goes in two stages. At the top there is an observation deck over the city, the port and the sea, and a revolving restaurant that turns a full circle in about an hour, though it is not always open.
The Ali and Nino statue and a 55 m Ferris wheel stand next to the tower, so all three fit into one walk.
How to get to the tower
The tower stands by the sea, in the part of the seaside park closer to the port. The easiest way is on foot along Batumi Boulevard or from the Old City; you will not need a car. To see the tower together with the other central sights in a day, follow one of our walking routes around Batumi.
Tips before you go up
- A queue builds up at the lift before sunset. Come an hour earlier, or after dark when the city is lit up.
- The deck sometimes closes for maintenance, and in winter, according to visitors, it may not run. Call the ticket office before you go: +995 514 15 22 55.
- Summer days by the sea are hot, so the evening is a better time to go up. More on the season in our guide to summer in Batumi.
