The beach: pebbles, sunbeds, entry

The beach runs along the boulevard and entry is free. A sunbed costs about 10 GEL a day and an umbrella about 5 GEL more (2026). The shore is pebbly and gets deep quickly: bring water shoes, and armbands for children. There are lifeguard posts along the beach and a 7 km cycle path on the boulevard. For sand, head out of town to the black magnetic sand of Ureki Beach; more options are in our list of the best beaches of Batumi.

Where to stay in summer

We recommend the Old Town or the New Boulevard. The New Boulevard is closer to the sea, with many new apartments; in the Old Town, Rustaveli Avenue runs along the sea, and behind it are old houses, courtyards and the main sights. Seafront places go first in summer, so book a hotel in Batumi early - some can be booked without prepayment and paid on arrival. Districts in detail - in our guide on where to stay in Batumi.

Where to escape the heat

The Adjara mountains are cooler in summer, around +19 °C on average in July. Leave in the morning for the waterfalls or the village of Gomis Mta above the clouds, and be back at the sea by evening. Mountains in the morning, beach in the afternoon, boulevard at night.
