Where to Stay in Tbilisi: The Ultimate Accommodation Guide

Discover the best areas to stay in Tbilisi. A complete breakdown of neighborhoods, from the historic Old Town to the trendy Vera district
In Tbilisi, choose the neighbourhood first and the hotel second: the city is large, and the area decides how much you walk and how often you take the metro. For a first visit of a few days, the Old Town and Sololaki are the most convenient; Vake suits a quieter stay near parks; Saburtalo is the budget choice for longer stays. Below: how the areas differ, what a night costs and what to check before you book.
Tbilisi neighbourhoods for visitors
| Area | Best for | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Old Town | A 2-5 day visit on foot: Narikala Fortress, the Bridge of Peace and the Abanotubani sulphur baths are close by | Noisy in the evening, especially on Shardeni and Erekle II streets; street parking is nearly impossible |
| Sololaki | A central but calmer base: 19th-century houses with wooden balconies below Narikala | Streets on a slope, parking is hard to find |
| Avlabari | Being next to the centre and the metro: the left bank of the Mtkvari opposite the Old Town, Sameba Cathedral and Metekhi Church | Main streets are busy in the evening, side streets are quieter |
| Vake | Families with children: Abashidze Street with cafes and bakeries, Vake and Mziuri parks, buses and metro on Chavchavadze Avenue | The Old Town is a metro, taxi or bus ride away |
| Saburtalo | Long stays and tighter budgets: a residential area of apartment blocks with its own metro line | Few sights nearby, the centre is reached by metro |
How much a night costs in Tbilisi
According to 2026 travel guides, winter (November to March) is noticeably cheaper than summer. The Old Town is roughly 20-30 % more expensive than other areas, Saburtalo is cheaper. What to check before booking
- Travelling by car - pick a hotel with its own parking: central street parking is paid by the hour, about 1-3 GEL an hour according to 2026 guides, and the fine for not paying is 50 GEL.
- For a quiet night - ask for a room facing the courtyard, especially in the Old Town.
- A metro station nearby means no traffic on the way to the railway station and other areas. A ride costs 1 GEL for 90 minutes with a Metromoney card (2026).
- Political rallies sometimes take place in the evening outside Parliament on Rustaveli Avenue. Visitors usually keep away from that spot, and the rest of the city goes on as normal.
